Pastel

Pastel paper is typically rough in texture that features a surface with a lot of tooth to it. The bumpy, uneven surface acts like a grater, shaving off particles of colour and storing them in the dips between bumps. Unlike other mediums which can be used on varying surfaces it is recommended that pastels are used on pastel specific paper to get the most out of the medium. Pastel paper is also unique in that it is often coloured to provide the artist with a pre existing layer of colour to work from.
