Information
Raw Sunn Hemp Paper is a traditional, handmade Islamic paper crafted in North India from 100% raw sunn hemp fibres. Each sheet is formed on a chapri, a grass-stem screen that leaves a distinct laid pattern, then sun-dried on plaster walls before being surface-sized with wheat starch.
The sheets are pressed between zinc plates and burnished with an agate or smooth stone on a wooden block to create a fine, smooth writing surface. This traditional finishing makes it ideal for calligraphy, fine pen and brush work, printmaking and bookbinding.
