Saunders Waterford Fat Pads are made and produced with paper from the St Cuthberts mill in Wells, Southern England. The pad contains 25 pages of Cylinder Mould Made, 100% cotton paper. These sheets have a neutral pH size (internally) which makes them genuinely acid-free. Each page is 300gsm (140lb) which is designed to be used with Watercolours. The sheets are Not Press (paper with some texture) and all paper is white in colour.

Saunders Waterford Fat Pads are deckle-edged which provides a slightly rough edge to the paper. The cover is paperback, easy to remove and acts more as a basic cover for the paper. The pad is spiral bound and pages can be easily removed for stretching. The watercolour fat pad can open-flat, is very thick and a great accessory if you are interested in trying Watercolour. It is a great book for an artist looking to explore higher end materials in their process. These pads are available in 19x28cm and 28x38cm sizing.

Watercolour paper is available in three textures. Cold press or ‘Not’ which has a slight texture, Rough which has a heavily textured and sometimes uneven surface, and Hot press which has a smooth even surface.

We recommend that this pad is perfect for watercolour, wet in wet techniques and works especially well with inks and watercolour paints. Because it is 300gsm (140lb) it is a fairly heavyweight paper and will take watercolour or any other similar wet technique well and the paper won’t easily buckle. We would suggest any wet medium, however pastels and sketching materials will work also.
