Information

Nepalese Lokta Paper is made from the Fibrous Inner Bark of the Lokta Plant. The white long fibres from the plant is what gives Lokta Paper its distinctive feel and technical qualities. Lokta is a bush, indigenous to Nepal and can grow up to 7ft tall. The harvesting process does not damage or kill the plant but instead prevents decay, after being harvested the plant will regrow making the whole process sustainable. 

The natural manufacturing process of these papers gives them a unique feel & texture as well as being durable  and resistant to tearing. They are non-perishable in water, making them ideal for use with wet media, especially Inks, which work fantastically on this surface. Inks have been used on Lokta for centuries, for legal documents and religious texts. Highlighting the medium's ideal use on this paper. 

Nepalese Lokta Paper is deckle-edge which provides a rough edge to the paper. The paper can be used with Inks or most dry media as a sketching and drawing surface. In particular, white or lighter toned materials work excellently on this surface as the natural dark tone gives immediate contrast to work. Available in two weights, 30gsm & 90gsm. Size of sheets are 56 x 76 c.m (22 x 30 Inch).

Need some proper improvement

I received my order of the Lokta paper and tissue paper very promptly which was really appreciated. However the package itself was not great. There was a bit of wear and tear which isn’t your fault, this is something the transportation would’ve caused. However when I looked inside I found the paper to be wrapped in a white plastic bag and then taped to the base of the base of the box with cellotape. The cellotape was incredibly hard to unwrap from the bag, it damaged the bag so I will not be able to reuse it as the handles had to be ripped to get to the paper. I also can’t recycle the cellotape. I found with the paper itself that the sizing of it was way off. It seems the paper sheets I’d ordered were a quarter of the actual original paper sheet size. My assumption would be that the paper would then be torn down to size for a deckled edge paper to preserve the edge but the paper I received was guillotined. This was not specified on the listing. Further to this - when the paper was guillotined, the sizing of the paper fluctuated by an inch or more between sheets. It seems no measurement was attempted to cut sheets to size correctly, this would have been immediately obvious that the paper size varied heavily. For my specific project I am lucky as I am tearing down the paper to size regardless, but in the size where I would’ve needed specific measurements, the paper I received would have been unusable. Going forward, I would hope that either listing would be amended so the customer would be aware of how the paper is cut and also a caveat that paper will vary in size. I don’t think over an inch of variation is acceptable really, it wouldn’t take much to measure the paper and guillotine to the correct measurements, better still tear the sheets by hand.

The paper itself is great however I also notice there is a noticeable difference between sheets with their GSM. Their stickers all say 90gsm although I am not convinced some of them were. They were more like 30gsm. Some when printed on did not have ink bleed to the other side whereas some would bleed completely. Whether this is down to the manufacturing of the paper or an error in labelling the sheets I am unsure. Lovely paper regardless
