Mitsumata Washi Paper is made from the Fibrous Inner Bark of the Mitsumata Plant. The plant produces long fibres that often produce lighter and softer papers compared to Lokta. The plants are cropped above ground-level and left for 3-4 years to regrow before harvesting again. The re-harvesting of these crops and careful technique when doing so means this whole process is sustainable. Excess scraps of bark are used as fuel to make the paper, ensuring not a fibre is wasted. 

The papers are made using the unique Japanese Nagashizuki method of dipping and layering. This heritage & craftsmanship provides the papers with a unique feel and texture not found elsewhere. The paper comes in three varieties, Washi/Plain, Tea Leaf and Bamboo Leaf. Each variant has a slightly different surface with the latter two leaf variants having flecks of their named material visible on the paper. Mitsumata Paper is deckle-edge which provides a rough edge to the paper. The paper can be used with Inks or most dry media as a sketching and drawing surface. 

We recommend this paper for use with Inks primarily as its unique manufacturing process and long fibres provide it with excellent qualities that are suited for Ink work. As well as inks this paper is excellent for sketching or scrapbooking as it has a unique colour and texture.
